What is the average cost of food (cheapest) if we do not purchase a dining package?

    Hi Leslie,

It depends on what you want to eat while you are there.  You can eat a large hot breakfast at one of the resort counter service restaurants for about $5-$7 per person.  My husband and I have purchased two adult platters in the past and were able to feed both of us and our 3 year old.  If you eat a light breakfast, you could get a muffin, bagel, or bowl of cereal for under $3.

An inexpensive lunch at a counter service establishment within the main parks can be under $10.  You can save money by requesting tap water with your meal.  If you plan ahead, you could bring those individual powdered drink mix sticks from home and carry them into the park.

Dinner is a bit more complicated.  If you don't mind having a burger for dinner, you can get away with the same inexpensive meal as I recommended for lunch.  My family usually wants something a bit more filling for dinner.  My best recommendation for a counter service dinner, would be the Columbia Harbour House at the Magic Kingdom.  I could have there fish and chips platter and bowl of New England Clam Chowder and be very satisfied for under $15.

You may also want to consider trying to eat a very late lunch buffet.  There are many to choose from.  The most economical would be The Trail's End Restaurant at Fort Wilderness.  They have an all-you-can-to-enjoy buffet that is very inexpensive (about $15-$25/person).  The character buffets will be closer to $25 for lunch, but if you can get by on a small breakfast, a big late lunch, and a snack before bed, you can save a lot of money.

Hope that helped.  Have a great trip,

    Michelle
