Hello from Australia. We are heading to Disneyworld in June/July and we were wondering if anything special happens on the 4th of July. We have heard about this celebration and were hoping to get a feel of what it is all about.

    Hi Linda!

Thank you for sending in your question to the Walt Disney World Moms Panel.  July 4th is definitely a popular holiday at Walt Disney World with special activities and fireworks.  However, you should know that the parks will be packed.  It is one of the most crowded days in the Magic Kingdom and the park usually closes due to capacity on July 4th.

The Magic Kingdom and Epcot generally have special activities going on during the day.  The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney's Hollywood Studios offer special 4th of July fireworks.  I think the special fireworks is the biggest draw, since the 4th of July is usually celebrated with fireworks in cities and towns across America.  In my opinion, the only park that doesn't do anything special is Disney's Animal Kingdom.

If you go, you will want to use a touring plan that minimizes your wait in lines.  I suggest visiting the independent website TouringPlans.com.  That's the website for the research team behind the tour book "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World".  They have touring plans to help you maximize the number of attractions you can experience in a day.  Their plans are based on a lot of math and years of data collection.  As an engineer, I'm a huge fan of their work.

I hope this helps!  Write back with more questions!
