Hey There, Tracey!
Welcome back to planDisney! Thanks so much for dropping by with another question about your upcoming
Disney Vacation Club stay. While there's nothing I love more than dreaming up the details of a Disney vacation, the anticipation before your DVC Member booking window opens is no joke –– how exciting that wait is almost over and you'll be booking your next visit in less than two weeks! To help make sure you're prepared with all the info you need when that long-awaited day finally arrives, let me share. few details about banking Vacation Points and booking your upcoming reservation.
First, let's talk about Points-banking. Each year, you have the option to bank up to 100 percent of your current Use Year's Vacation Points allotment to the upcoming Use Year. Once you do, the expiration date for those Points will move to the end of the next year. There's one catch, though –– Vacation Points can only be banked in months 1-8 of your Use Year. Since you have an August Use Year, this means that you'll have the option to bank as many of your Points as you choose between August 1st and March 31st. That said, if you're planning to use Vacation Points from your 2022 Use Year to book your reservations for August 2023, I suggest you go ahead and bank those Points before it's time to make your reservation. That way, your Points will be ready and waiting to use once it's time to book. To do this, simply head to the Disney Vacation Club website, hover over the "My DVC" tab, and select "Bank My Vacation Points" from the drop-down menu.
Now that we've got that covered, it's time to get down to the really exciting stuff –– officially booking your next visit. Since it sounds like you're planning to stay somewhere other than your home Resort, you'll be able to begin booking seven months from your check-in date for up to seven consecutive nights. This means that if you're planning to check in on August 1st, you'll be able to make reservations beginning January 1st for August 1st through August 8th.
But what about that 8th night, right? Since you're planning to stay longer than those seven nights, you won't be able to book that last night on January 1st –– you won't be able to add the night of August 8th to your reservation until January 2nd (once August 8th is technically within that 7-day window). However, I don't recommend waiting until January 2nd to book your entire stay, especially since you aren't booking during the Home Resort Priority Period since reservations can go very quickly at the 7-month mark.
Instead, I recommend hopping on to book a reservation for August 1-8 on January 1st. Then, on January 2nd, head to your Member Dashboard, click on your existing reservation, and select "View or Modify Details". Next, click "Modify" next to your room type, and on the next page, use the calendar to search for your entire reservation (August 1-9). If a reservation is available for August 9th, simply follow the onscreen prompts to modify your existing reservation. In the event the room you're searching for isn't available for the night of August 8th, you'll want to cancel the search without making any modifications to your original reservation. Then, I suggest going back to the Member booking portal to search for just that last night. From there, you'll be able to Waitlist that last night if necessary.
I hope this helped to answer your question, Tracey, and I really appreciate you visiting planDisney. I'm wishing you lots of pixie dust for finding the perfect reservation as you book your next magical adventure with Disney Vacation Club!
Happy Planning,
Amy
