In August our family of 6 will make our first trip to Disney World. If you have been there before what amount of tip would you recommend for the Disney Magical Express bus driver and the Disney resort housekeepers?

Hi there William. Your family must be busting at the seams excited about your first trip to Walt Disney World. August may still seem a long way off, but it will be here before you can say "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"!

In regards to tipping, this is a very sensitive subject and can have a vast array of answers depending on the person you are speaking with. So, I'll give you my opinion, but know that others could feel very differently about it.

We always tip the Disney Magical Express driver $1 per person and another $1 per bag if he loads anything below. So, my family of five is usually tipping about $5-$6. You will notice above his seat on the bus, it will note that tipping is not required but is accepted.

Mousekeeping, as housekeeping is affectionately called at Walt Disney World, is often a thankless job. Having worked in the hotel business many years ago and doing many housekeeping rounds, I can honestly say that some people can leave quite the mess, expecting it to be cleaned up, and never thinking twice about the person doing the cleaning. Now, I'm not saying we don't leave our fair share of clutter and mess as we have 3 kids. However, we tip at the end of our trip and that tip is based on how many days we actually had service (some days we leave the sign out and don't get service) and how cluttered and messy it was. We typically leave between $25-$30 for week's stay. For my family, that comes to about $1-$2 per person/per day that was cleaned. As with the Magical Express bus drivers, gratuity is completely optional and not expected. If you speak with guest services at the resort, they will tell you that. Again, this is my personal opinion and is not necessarily the view of others.

I hope you have a magical stay full of  amazing memories to last a lifetime.
