This Aug will be at AKL, but thinking of switching to Poly. If we do can I still keep the $750 gc we got as a special offer, and just pay the diff in price? AKL sounds amazing, its just a bit removed and worry about long bus rides w/ kids. What to do??

Hi Michelle, Due to the fact that the Gift Card was part of a special promotional offer, you'll need to call 407-W-DISNEY and speak with a Travel Planner regarding whether or not switching Resorts would cause you to lose it.

However, I wanted to take a moment to address your concerns regarding the incredible Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL). The Polynesian is conveniently located on the monorail & close to the Magic Kingdom & Epcot. However, you would still need to ride a bus Hollywood Studios & the Animal Kingdom Park. If what sold you on the AKL to begin with was the animals, then you won't be disappointed. Yes, you'll have a bus ride to any of the Theme Parks. I can tell you honestly though, we've stayed there when our kids were 3, 5, 7, 12 & 16 and they didn't complain about bus rides. Instead, they raved about the amazing Lodge, the animals on the Savanna, the cultural safari's, looking at zebra through night-vision goggles, dining at Boma, the pool, playing the drums in the lobby & more. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a bit removed from everything and to me, that's a selling point. You truly feel like you are in Africa (or at least what I envision Africa to be like). It is a highly themed Resort and one that I absolutely love. We make a point of going to the AKL on every trip to eat dinner at Boma, and we always take some time to soak in the atmosphere.

We've stayed in many different Resorts on Disney property and from any of them, you have to ride a bus to get to at least a few of the Parks. The kids get used to that & quickly learn that it's part of the experience. They do play a soundtrack on the bus as you get closer to the Theme Parks which will fill you in on details and help pass the time.

I just wanted to share a few of the reasons why I love the Animal Kingdom Lodge. This way, if you aren't able to switch to the Polynesian, you'll still be thrilled with your decision.

    Have a wonderful vacation,
