Hi there, Julee! Welcome to planDisney.
I am a big fan of using Disney Gift Cards when I visit Walt Disney World Resort. I purchase them from time to time, especially when I can find a special offer or discount, and use the gift cards as my own personal vacation savings plan.
The answer to your question is yes and no. You absolutely can use Disney Gift Cards or e-gift cards for in-app purchases, such as when purchasing
Disney Genie+ service,
Individual Lightning Lanes, or
Mobile Food & Beverage Orders. However, you cannot store a gift card to your
My Disney Experience account as you can with a credit or debit card. What I do is enter the gift card numbers as a note on my phone. That way I can copy and paste the gift card numbers on the checkout page in the app, rather than typing in the numbers each time I make a purchase. If you already have a credit card stored in your My Disney Experience profile, that will be your default payment method. Look for the option to change your payment method during the checkout process.
I usually keep a physical gift card on hand, as well as an e-gift card in my mobile wallet. I find the physical card is easier to use when paying at a table-service restaurant -- I can just tuck it into the folio as I would a credit card. The e-card is great when purchasing snacks or merchandise -- most locations can just scan the card from my phone.
Did you know, you can manage your Disney Gift Cards at
disneygiftcard.com? You can transfer balances from one card to another and see the transaction history of your cards as well.
Julee, I hope this information was helpful. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to stop by planDisney again anytime. We are always happy to help.
