Hi, before arriving at WDW we (from Germany) will have one vacation-week on the Bahamas. We will then fly from Bahamas via MIA to MCO (so immigration should not be at MCO). Should I handle my luggage like being on a domestic or international flight?

    Herzlich willkommen, Rene!

Thank you for submitting your first question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I hope that we can help you plan a magical visit to the place where dreams come true!

As an international Guest flying from Brazil, I sometimes arrive in the United States through another American city before taking a connecting flight to Orlando. In your case, Miami is where you will pass through U.S. Immigration, and then pick up your luggage before clearing U.S. Customs. Once you have cleared customs, you will have to check your luggage again, this time for your domestic flight to Orlando. Upon arrival, follow the signs and take the train to the main terminal and domestic baggage claim. Once inside the main terminal, look for signs indicating the baggage claim area, and once you get there pay attention to the monitors so that you can retrieve your luggage at the correct baggage carrousel. What I have learned from traveling abroad extensively is that you should always ask the airline agent at the time you check in for your first flight about how they handle your luggage until your final destination. Making sure you clear all questions in the Bahamas will more likely result in stress-free travels.

Moms Panel Tip: If you are staying at a Disney Resort hotel, don’t forget that one of the many benefits you have is being able to take Disney’s Magical Express from Orlando International Airport to your Disney Resort hotel, and then back to the airport at the end of your visit.

Rene, as a German citizen myself, I would like to say that it was a pleasure answering your question. Please stop by real soon so that we may continue to assist you.

    Best magical wishes,
