We will be arriving next Thursday, Jan 3 and would love to take one day to visit a beach. What is the closest and best beach? What's the best way to do this? Do we have to rent a car? We are staying on Disney Property.

Nicole in only a few days you will be right in the middle of the magic!

Since you are traveling so far from a landlocked area a day at the beach sounds like a wonderful outing. For the closest beaches to Walt Disney World, head down I-4 East to the Atlantic Ocean. Daytona and Cocoa Beach are a good hour's drive from Orlando. The Gulf coast is another option but the drive will take around two hours. I prefer Cocoa Beach as this coastal spot tends to be less crowded and not so touristy. In January, however, Daytona should be relatively quiet as well. The ocean is too cold for me during the winter but the beach is still lovely and enjoyable.

You will need to rent a car.  Both Alamo and National have rental counters at the Car Care Center near the Magic Kingdom. Shuttles are available to transport you to and from the rental office and your resort. Call 407.824.3470 for shuttle information.

Enjoy your fun in the sun.
