Arriving 1/1/20. I keep seeing New Year's Eve is busiest day of year at WDW. What about New Year's Day? Busiest park? MK? Will days after start getting less busy?

    Hi Connie!

I've been fortunate enough to celebrate New Year's Eve a few times at Walt Disney World Resort.  Yes, it is extremely busy, but also a ton of fun!

In my experience, the weeks around the Christmas and New Year's holidays are among the busiest of the year.  Many families choose to take advantage of winter school breaks to visit Walt Disney World Resort and enjoy all the holiday festivities.  You might find New Year's Day to be slightly less busy than New Year's Eve (especially first thing in the morning), but overall I would not expect crowds to begin to subside significantly until the first weekend in January, when many families will be ending their vacations to return to school.

A quick internet search of "Disney World crowd calendar" will turn up some independent websites with their opinions of what crowds at each park might look like on any given day.  Keep in mind that these are estimates only and based on their own independent research, as Disney Parks do not publicly release daily attendance figures.

I think the key to enjoying yourself during busier times of year is to manage your expectations.  Yes, the parks may be very busy, but during the holiday season park hours are extended giving you more time to play each day.  A great strategy is to visit early and late in the day when the crowds are lower, taking a break to rest and recharge during the middle of the day when the parks are at their busiest.  FastPass+ can also help you visit the more popular attractions while spending less time waiting in line.  My family and I had a wonderful time during our holiday visits, and we would definitely plan another vacation at that time.

I hope that helps!  Please visit the Moms Panel again with any additional questions you may have about planning your vacation.  Enjoy!
