We are arriving on Friday with two sets of granparents, two adult children and two little grandkids. The weather is supposed to be cold all 5 days we will be there. Any suggestions about clothing, indoor sheltered areas along the way in WDW and Epcot?

    Hi -

Enjoying Disney World with your family will be a wonderful vacation, even if it's cold.

First for some good news. Some people shy away from the cold, particularly Florida residents planning day trips, as they may be able to reschedule their Disney visits with short notice. As a result, crowds in the park tend to be lighter during cold spells.

For clothing, the best idea is to wear layers to the parks. While it may be chilly outside, the temperature inside the rides and shows is regulated. However, do not worry if you become cold as there are plenty of shops sprinkled around the parks where you can purchase sweatshirts, jackets, and other clothing to keep warm. Your money will be well spent as you'll be able to stay warm and take home a souvenir.

Some tips for staying warm in the Magic Kingdom include riding indoor attractions such as Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. Try to avoid outdoor attractions such as The Jungle Cruise and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Remember to walk through the warm indoor shops along Main street, which are connected, instead of walking down Main Street. If possible, avoid Fantasyland if with young children. As soon as my kids see Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Cinderella's Golden Carrousel, both outdoor rides, they insist on riding these rides repeatedly.

We find staying warm at Epcot on cold days to be easier as there are many indoor attractions, especially in Future World. You can take shelter from the cold weather inside The Seas with Nemo and Friends Pavilion. This space features The Seas with Nemo and Friends ride, Turtle Talk with Crush, a giant fish tank, and loads of activities. Just some of the other great indoor stops at Epcot are The Land Pavilion, Innoventions, and The Imagination! Pavilion. Two Epcot spots to avoid during cold weather are Club Cool and stopping underneath Spaceship Earth, as this area can become a wind tunnel.

Stay warm and enjoy your vacation.
