Hi! We are arriving early morning of Nov 12, 2011. I have been planning this trip since May! One of my options to help fill the day on Saturday is to ride the monorail to the 3 Resorts to see their Christmas decorations. Will the decos be up?? Thnx

    Hi Darlene,

Congrats on your upcoming trip to Walt Disney World! Stopping by the Moms Panel, you're among a lot of obsessed planners.

So, let's steer you to a great first day in WDW.

The monorail hotels will be starting to decorate their gingerbread displays according to the following schedule (subject to change, of course):

Holiday gingerbread tree display at Contemporary - November 19
Gingerbread House at Grand Floridian opens - November 14 (set up begins earlier in the month)

The resorts may have their garlands, trees, etc. up by November 12th as decorating begins right after Halloween. We visited during the same timeframe a few years ago and were pleasantly surprised to wake up one morning and find that overnight our entire resort (Beach Club) had been decorated. It was absolutely magical.

Some other great first night activities include:
Visiting Fort Wilderness for a carriage ride or campfire
Downtown Disney for sundaes at Ghirardelli
Enjoy your resort (you are likely to be very busy once you begin touring the parks). Look for activities such as movies under the stars.
Dinner at Downtown Disney or any resort hotel

    Have fun!
