Jeannine from MI Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

Hello. I am arriving at Disney world on august 13. Is it true that genie plus is adding several more pay lightning lanes. Is genus plus even with the price at this point. Also for genie plus what day for resort guest is it day of arrival or next day.

Hey Howdy Hey Jeannine and welcome to planDisney!

Genie+ has been a recent addition to the vacation experience for anyone traveling to Walt Disney World Resort this past year. It has and continues to go through some minor changes as Disney continues to gather information on how it is used and feedback from Guests. Thank you for your question regarding experiences available through Genie+ and as you have noted, things will be changing again really soon. Let's review some of the upcoming changes and see if this would be right for you!

From the Disney site, as of this writing, 5 attractions are set to move from Genie+ availability to Individual Lightning Lane purchase. These attractions are across all 4 theme parks and it looks like when this change goes into effect, there will be 2-3 attractions per park that are available through Individual Lightning Lane Purchase, standby or virtual queue only. There still are quite a few attractions to experience at each park that would be available for Genie+ and would still be something that you should consider. The full list of attractions would be at the bottom of the Genie+ page under each theme park listed.

Now, I feel the worthiness of Genie+ would depend on your comfort level of using it in the parks. Disney does state the expectation when Guests make this purchase that they will be able to book 2-3 Lightning Lane return windows in a day for an average Guest. I have heard a lot of people staying onsite at a Disney Resort Collection hotel purchase Genie+, try and book all of their Lightning Lanes for later in the afternoon or evening and try and get to the parks early to take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry. With Early Morning Entry, you get to enter the parks 30 minutes before the general public as long as you are staying at a Disney Resort Collection hotel.

As long as you are staying at a Disney Resort Collection hotel, you would be able to purchase Genie+ starting at midnight of the day you plan to visit the park. You would be able to make your first Lightning lane selection starting at 7:00 a.m. EST and then your next one 2 hours after the park officially opens or after you tap into your first Lightning Lane. You will be able to make Lightning Lane selections the same way throughout the day, either every 2 hours or after you tap into your Lightning Lane attraction.

Our family of 5 had a recent trip where we spent 2 days in Magic Kingdom, one in which we purchased Genie+ and one we took advantage of Extended Evening Theme Park Hours and no Genie+. On both days we did experience all the attractions we wanted to, but with Genie+, we were more consistently busy throughout the afternoon and early evening when we had our Lightning Lane selections booked. I feel like your decision would come down to how you wanted to navigate the parks and how long you were willing to wait in lines. Genie+ will give you the edge to experience more during the day. If you got to the parks early for Early Theme Park Entry, you can experience the attractions listed for Individual Lightning Lane without having to wait in really long lines or purchase Individual Lightning Lanes.

Whew! A lot of information for you Jeannie! Hopefully, it all makes sense and gives you some perspective on the details and how to use Genie+. If you have any further questions please let us know, we would be happy to help.

    Have a Magical Day,

    Nick
