Ahoy there, Holly!
Welcome aboard planDisney! I love that you’re thinking ahead about embarkation day and keeping one eye on the horizon for a possible stateroom upgrade. That excitement has big Treasure Planet energy, where the map is in hand and the journey hasn’t launched yet, but you can already feel that something special is ahead.
In most cases, Guests are asked to arrive at the terminal
no earlier than their assigned Port Arrival Time, even if they’re hoping to upgrade. Your scheduled time helps Disney manage crowds and keep the boarding process running smoothly. That said, when we’re driving to the port, I like to arrive about 15 to 30 minutes before our assigned time so we can drop luggage, get parked, and be ready to head straight inside once our window opens. If you arrive significantly earlier than your Port Arrival Time, you may be asked to wait outside the terminal or return closer to your scheduled time.
Since an
upgrade is on your wish list, you have a couple of options. You can
call Disney Cruise Line ahead of time to ask if any upgrades are available before embarkation day. Otherwise, once you’re allowed into the terminal, head straight to the upgrades desk. There’s usually a sign directing you where to go or if upgrades are currently available. Sometimes it’s a yes, sometimes it’s a no, but it never hurts to check.
While you’re planning for that first afternoon onboard, a little embarkation day strategy can go a long way. My crew and I like to grab lunch and then head straight for the pool, so I always recommend
packing swimsuits in your carry-on or even wearing them under your travel clothes. Staterooms are typically ready around 1:30 PM (subject to change), and checked luggage can take a bit longer to arrive, so having your essentials with you keeps the day feeling relaxed instead of rushed.
I hope this helps as you plan your embarkation day and decide how to time everything just right. Whether you snag an upgrade or sail happily in your original stateroom, the real magic starts the moment you step onboard!
Sea ya real soon as the adventure continues into a bright new year,
Dustin
