Hi. I arrive in 68 days. First time going to Disney world since I was a child. I am confused. Should I check into my room when it is 60 days away? Booking events wise what is on. My friends are doing not so spooky event. What is on 22 July for 16 nts?

Well hello there, Claire! Welcome to planDisney. You've come to the right place!

Sometimes planning a vacation can be a little overwhelming at first. Where do I eat? What do I do? What's the best strategy for me? Well, I've got some helpful tips and ideas to make your trip the best it can be. Let's dive right in!

    • You can check into your Disney Resorts Collection Hotel around 60 days out. While it's not necessary to do it that early, why not? Simply log into your MyDisney account, select "My Plans" from the My Disney Experience dropdown menu, find your reservation, and select "Start Check-In." Follow the prompts and remember that you can update your information later if you need to. If you complete this process ahead of time, you'll be able to simply go straight to your room once it's ready. Just make sure to allow push notifications on your phone and/or consent to text messaging. And rest assured. If you don't complete this process, you can still check in at the Front Desk of your hotel. No need to stress!
    •  At 6 a.m. EST 60 days before your arrival date, you can book advanced dining reservations for the first 10 days of your vacation. You will want to do this, but no need to panic! Simply go to the dining page of the site and use the filters to find restaurants that speak to you and your family, note them, and decide approximately when you'd like to dine there on your vacation. Most can be modified (subject to availability) or canceled up to 2 hours before the reservation, but you'll want to check for details on the restaurant's page.
    • At this time, Guests from the United Kingdom cannot book experiences from the Enchanting Extras Collection ahead of their trip. This includes events like Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Instead, you can wait until you've landed in the United States and have access to that website to search for availability. Or if you don't want to wait, for the Halloween party, in particular, there are a few authorized UK Ticket Partners for the Walt Disney World Resort who offer these types of tickets that you might want to look into (thanks to my friend Sue F. for this hot tip!). The first of these parties is August 9, 2024 and I think that's a little out of your date range, but you may want to check me on that one! However, there are Disney After Hours Events at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park that you may want to check out.
    • The Disney Genie Service is your friend. You can use this feature on the My Disney Experience mobile app. When you're able to use this magical app, click the 3 horizontal lines at the bottom righthand corner (☰), select "Today's Plans," and if you're planning on the actual day, select "Get Started Now." Otherwise, select "Change Day," select the date you want to plan, and then select "Get Started Now." Follow the prompts to select your interests and when the day arrives, you will have a suggested itinerary tailored to your interests. You can do this for each day. Of course, you can purchase the Disney Genie+ Service to get access to shorter wait times in the Lightning Lanes at select attractions, but the standard Disney Genie Service is currently free to use.
Claire, the last thing I want is for you to be confused. So please reach out directly to me with any other questions.
