Greetings, David, and welcome to planDisney! You and your family are about to have an incredible week at the Happiest Place on Earth. It's great that the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is on your radar – my two kids ask to play there every time we visit California Adventure.
I have good news for you, David: According to the
Disneyland website, the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail appears to be open each day of your visit, from 10 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. It also isn't showing up on the list of scheduled refurbishments on the
Hours & Events Calendar. This is subject to change, but all signs are currently pointing to your family being able to spend time there this week.
The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is truly special. It's a woodsy retreat right in the park where the family can soak up nature vibes and intentionally slow down. You'll discover lots of kid-friendly activities, including slides, an interactive cave, rock climbing, a ropes course with lookout towers, tire swings, and walking paths. Some of these experiences have
height or age requirements, but there's something for everyone.
Spending time in areas like this is, in my opinion, the secret to a great day when visiting the Disneyland Resort with little kids. Experiencing attractions, walking around the park, and trying new foods are all exciting and a lot of fun. However, after sitting in the stroller or waiting in line, kids may have extra energy to burn. Additionally, after following directions from the grownups for all these new experiences, it's a nice break for them to lead the way and explore. The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, Tom Sawyer Island, and Mickey's Toontown are all perfect spots for that.
I have another tip to share that may help keep everyone happy during your visit. Give each kid three "tickets" – one each for an attraction, snack, and Character. That gives each kid the chance to choose the experiences they want most. There's something to be said for giving them something tangible to hand over when making their decision, too.
Before we say goodbye for now, here are a few more tips:
- You might be interested in using the Baby Care Center for the youngest kids in your group. It's a comfortable place to change diapers, and there are toddler-size toilets.
- Pack a bag of quarters and visit the coin machines in Disneyland Park. We've found them inside Candy Palace and Candy Kitchen, Pioneer Mercantile, and Adventureland Bazaar. Don't miss the Fortune Tellers, too!
- The Disney Friends Dance Party is one of our favorite experiences right now in California Adventure. It's here for a limited time as part of Kids Rule Summer. Head to the Disney Theater in the afternoon for a super fun interactive dance party with Disney Characters. The best part is it's out of the sun!
