We arrive at approx 5pm on our check in day, what can do local to our hotel without heading to a park? We're in Port Orleans French quarter

Hi there, Lisa, and welcome to planDisney!

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort—French Quarter is one of my favorite Resort hotels on Walt Disney World Resort property. Fantastic choice! You will fall in love with its charm, reminiscent of the historic French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the perfect combination of relaxation and vibrancy. With a 5 p.m. arrival to Orlando, Florida, you have endless options in one of the most visited destinations in the world. So, let’s get into some of those possibilities.

First, you could simply enjoy the amenities that your Resort hotel provides. Look for signage in the lobby and around the hotel with listed recreational activities. Check out the Movies Under the Stars, rent bicycles or surrey bikes, or partake in a late night beignet at Scat Cat’s Club. While the Resort hotel is lovely to even take a stroll around, you can also book a 25-minute horse-drawn carriage ride for your group to enjoy before settling in for bed.

One of my go-to plans for when I stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort—French Quarter is to take a boat ride down the Sassagoula River to Disney Springs, a premier shopping and dining area at Walt Disney World Resort, from the hotel itself. It’s super convenient and very relaxing. The ferries run until around 11 p.m. every day, but be sure to double check with a friendly Cast Member before departing.

AN EXTRA GEM: You can also visit other Walt Disney World Resort hotels. I recommend either taking the paid Minnie Van Service directly to another destination or take a bus to a theme park and then hop on another bus or other mode of transportation like Monorail or Disney Skyliner to check out the several hotels around property. There are so many unique spots to explore. And if you’d rather be a bit more active, I highly recommend trying your hand at mini golf at one of the two golf courses on property. My family loves Fantasia Gardens & Fairways Miniature Golf
