Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Caroline ~
Disney is committed to assisting Guests with all types of special needs including those with
Cognitive Disabilities. They have put together
A Resource for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) which you can find on the link shown above. This will give you a lot of things you can do before and during your trip to help it go as smooth as possible.
If you have a child that is not able to wait in a regular queue, you should visit Guest Relations in the first theme park of your visit to request a Disability Access Service (DAS) Card. You will not be required to bring any medical documentation or a letter from your pediatrician as proof but should be prepared to answer some questions and explain your child's specific needs to the Cast Members at Guest Relations.
I'm limited in space but recently answered a question for a Guest with more
details of how the DAS works that you may find helpful. Here is a list of
Frequently Asked Questions about the DAS.
If your child has any comfort items, bring them if possible. Head phones or ear plugs help keep the noise level down if noise sensitivity is an issue. If your child become anxious, remember the things you do at home to calm him or her down as keeping it familiar sometimes helps (like singing). Remember to relax and breathe. Sometimes you may just have to take a break and try it again later.
Please feel free to visit again with any other questions. We're hEAR for you!
Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
