Area there any advantages to the new MagicBands versus the old ones? It seems to me the old ones are less obtrusive and if they operate exactly the same I might prefer them.

    Hi James,

Thanks for your excellent question. The new version of the MagicBand is a bit different than the original. The face is wider, more like a watch, and the material of the bracelet is slightly thinner. My daughters wore the updated version for the first time this weekend, and both said they thought they were easier to use than the original because the wider face made it simpler to align the band's sensor with the payment machines and with the door lock at our resort.

I think the new version stays in place better than the original

The other difference in the new MagicBands is that the center disc can be removed and worn on a lanyard or carabiner. This is great if you find the bracelet version uncomfortable or find it inconvenient because you wear a watch or fitness band.

If you have a reservation at a Walt Disney World resort, you will automatically receive the newer version of the MagicBand. I would encourage you to give it a try. However, if you have the original version and it is still active in your My Disney Experience account, you are welcome to use it if you prefer. They are interchangeable!

I hope that's helpful, James. Please check back with us at the Disney Parks Moms Panel if you have any other planning questions. We're always here to share our personal experience with guests like you.

    Enjoy!
