We have an appointment at the bbb for my 6 year old in late August. I'm worried that the costume will be too uncomfortable in the heat. Can you recommend costumes that work best in hot weather or an alternative that will still allow her to be very princesy

    Hi Jennifer!

I love your question because as a mom of two Princesses who have had numerous makeovers at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique we have come up with strategies when the weather is hot. The first thing we did was decide upon what to wear underneath. My daughters loved to be able to take their princess dresses off if they became too hot or even wanted to splash in a water play area. Therefore we always selected cute athletic type shorts with wicking material and sparkle tank tops to wear underneath. If you are really crafty you can even bedazzle them with rhinestones. One of my daughter's favorite tank tops was a simple white tank in which I adhered a rhinestone iron-on in the shape of a tiara on its front. I have seen adorable iron-ons at the local craft stores as well as on Etsy.

The next component is selecting the right princess dress. My favorite for warm weather is the Little Adventures brand from Little Dress Up Shop. These dresses have bodices made of stretch velvet and are not scratchy nor do they have zippers. My girls could even put them on by themselves. These dresses are very packable and I would just bring them along with me in the extra large Ziploc bags until it was time for our makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

Finally you should consider shoes and make sure your daughter has worn them prior to your arrival. I have always had good luck in finding sparkly sandals which made my daughters feel royal while at the same time being comfortable. Although glass slipper replicas seem like a good idea at the time, if you are planning on playing in the parks they usually cause more discomfort than they are worth.

Have a Magical time with your daughter's princess makeover Jennifer! I will warn you to bring tissues though, I have always been quite moved when my own girls became princesses right before my eyes.

    Blessings,
