Has anyone participated in & or volunteered for the Flag Lowering in MK? Husband is active duty & I know they select 1 veteran a day to participate & I am hoping active duty can also participate. Hoping my daughter can see her Dad do this befor

Hi, Brandy!  You can absolutely be active duty military and be chosen for the daily flag retreat ceremony that takes place at the Magic Kingdom.  The procedure has changed recently, however, and now instead of veterans and other military personnel signing up to volunteer, the person chosen to participate in the ceremony is completely random.

To improve your chances of being chosen, you have to make yourself known to the cast members in the morning who do the random selection.  Have your husband wear something that indicates he is affiliated with the military, and plan to arrive at the Magic Kingdom super early.  The closer you are to the turnstiles when rope drop occurs, the easier it is for the cast members to see you and recognize your military hubby.  Chat up the cast members, too!  Be friendly, smiley, and if you are using your Armed Forces Salute tickets, take them out and put them away slowly, so people see them!

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that your husband gets chosen for this very special ceremony!  I always keep a tissue handy, as it never fails to bring a tear or two to my eyes!
