Greetings, Monica, and welcome to planDisney! Whether you are looking to upgrade your theme park ticket to a
Magic Key pass or upgrade your existing Magic Key to a higher pass type, I'm happy to provide you with some helpful information!
Let's start with upgrading your theme park ticket to a Magic Key pass. You should see an option to
upgrade your ticket to an available Magic Key pass once you've used the ticket to enter a theme park. You'll want to upgrade before midnight on the day of your visit (for one-day tickets) or by midnight on or before the last day you use a multi-day ticket. If you want to upgrade a wholly unused ticket, just stop by the on-site ticket booth.
Check the website for additional information about upgrading.
Now, let's talk about upgrading an existing Magic Key to a higher pass type. You've got a friend in me to help with this, Monica, since I just upgraded my child's pass yesterday. Unfortunately, I have a bit of a Bibbidi Bobbidi Bummer to start with. At the time of writing this, the Magic Key upgrade page (accessible via the
Disneyland mobile app or directly on the website) appears to be down for maintenance. It's unclear when it will be up and running again. A Cast Member advised me to visit the on-site ticket booth to upgrade the pass in person, and that's what I ended up doing.
In person, you'll present the Magic Key you want to upgrade and let the Cast Member know which available pass type you want to switch to. You'll pay the difference between your existing pass and the new pass type (due in full at the time of the upgrade). I was done in just a few minutes, and walked over to the
Downtown Disney District for dinner. It turned out to be a nice evening!
My advice, Monica, is to keep trying the website if you're unable to upgrade in person. You can also call the
Magic Key phone line to speak with a Cast Member, but they may give you the same recommendation.
Inspire and Believe Key pass sales most recently resumed on November 4, 2025, and we don't know at what point sales will pause again. Ideally, you'd upgrade your Magic Key as soon as you can to avoid the possibility of sales being paused before you have a chance to do it. It's worth noting that sales typically resume periodically throughout the year, so if, for some reason, it doesn't work out this time, you can keep an eye out for news about future pass sales. You also have the option to
upgrade or downgrade your pass when renewing, even if passes are paused for new sales at that time. All that to say, you will have options!
Monica, I'll wish upon a star that you'll be able to complete the upgrade you're hoping for. If you have any other questions, please reach out. We're always happy to help here at planDisney!
Your pal,
Kriss
