Welcome to planDisney, John!
I'm delighted to answer your question today because, like you, I just love the
wildest ride in the wilderness! I always get an extra pep in my step when I turn the corner from Adventureland or Liberty Square and see the iconic rock formations of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad rising in the distance. While I always enjoy my adventures aboard the trains of Big Thunder Mining Company, I snagged a seat in the first row of the final car with some planDisney pals recently, and it was a particularly
wild ride! If you're looking for a good time that will have you squealing and laughing until you cry during your next adventure, I definitely suggest this seat. As a bit of a Frontierland fangirl, I have been closely following the news of
Frontierland's expansion and the
villainous addition beyond Big Thunder at Magic Kingdom Park. Following the initial announcement of these unprecedented expansions, it was revealed that construction would begin on the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island next year.
At this time, John, there has been no information released regarding the closure of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for the construction of Villains Land the new Cars-inspired Frontierland adventure. While information is always subject to change,
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's page on the Walt Disney World website currently shows operating hours for dates through October. Because Walt Disney World Resort understands that Guests consider certain attractions vital to their magical vacations, refurbishments are typically announced pretty far in advance, and the information is listed in bright red text on the attraction's webpage as soon as it is available to the public. Additionally, if a temporary closure is included as part of an expansion, the information might be released on the
Disney Parks Blog as exciting updates are revealed, so I suggest keeping an eye on the blog as you make plans.
While I was unable to provide definitive information, John, I hope this was helpful for you as you plan your next visit. Please feel free to
stop back by planDisney. I'm always happy to help!
Thinking Happy Thoughts,
Lizzie
