Hi Andrea,
Welcome aboard the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Wow-how cool is it that your grandfather will be sailing with you? Disney Cruise Line does an exceptional job with accessibility and ensuring Guests' safety, so you'll be sailing into smooth waters.
If your grandfather needs a wheelchair or electric scooter during the cruise, then he must provide his own device (either personal or rental). When not in use, all wheelchairs/scooters must be stored inside staterooms or in a designated parking area.
Check out both the
Services for Guests with Disabilities and the
online guidebook. These are great roadmaps on how to approach making arrangements for your grandfather and your travel party.
There's even a
Special Services Team that will ensure your vacation is practically perfect in every way. One tool they have is an
online form that can be submitted pre-cruise, but no later than 60 days prior to your sail date.
As far as ashore activities, Disney Cruise Line also now offers
Port Adventures by Accessible Travel Solutions for excursions that can include all family members.
If your itinerary includes
Castaway Cay, good news! Your grandfather can hit the beach with you in a complimentary sand wheelchair (available on a first-come, first-served basis). You'll find these at the tram stop for Scuttle's Cove.
Cruise back by if you have any additional questions-I'd love to answer them. Have a magical cruise!
Sherry
