Has anyone done the Pirates and Pals Cruise and the Iluminations pontoon boat rental? We will be at there over Father's Day this year and I would like to surprise my husband with one but can't decide which we would like better, DS is 6 and DD is 3.

Hi Barbara! I have had the pleasure of experiencing both of these wonderful Disney activities. I also can highly recommend them both. However, since you are thinking of this as a surprise for your husband I would book the Illuminations cruise. Your son and daughter will love it as well and you will have the entire boat to yourself although you have room to invite others if you choose. Each boat will carry up to ten guests and comes with a driver and some drinks such as sodas and water and bagged snacks of chips etc. I suggest since this is a special occasion and a special surprise that you also arrange through the resort private dining (which I am assuming will be either the Beach Club or Yacht Club where you will take the boat from) a special culinary delight. You can have champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, or a cake delivered to the boat prior to the cruise. Basically you can select anything that is on the private dining menu but remember that you are not able to keep things hot on the boat so pick wisely. Just call private dining or have your resort concierge help you with this once you arrive. Make sure you do this at least 24 hours in advance.
Your husband and children will be awed by the location to watch the show and will enjoy the boat ride down to Hollywood Studios before you head to Epcot. Illuminations is my favorite night time show at Disney!

The Pirates and Pals Cruise is also great, as I said above, and perhaps it is something you can surprise your children with at a later visit. It is definitely geared to the kids but adults seem to join in and have fun as well. It comes with snacks and some character meet and greets and a super spot on the water to watch Wishes fireworks from the Magic Kingdom.

You can't go wrong with either but my vote for a husband surprise is Illuminations!
