Anna I had a RNY gastric bypass surgury on 3/2/09. I am going to WDW in August during the dinning promotion. I was told that you might have advice by some people on line.

Hi, Benson!  Congratulations on your decision to have surgery, and I hope you are enjoying your journey to Loserville!  I hope your recovery has been an easy one!

You will have to discuss with your surgeon what might be acceptable for you to eat at five months post op.  I know some surgeons do not allow you to eat raw vegetables - so salads are out; and others ask their patients to add only one protein at a time, and give it a few weeks before adding a new one.  Do let your surgeon know you will be on vacation, and ask for advice.

Make sure you bring all of your vitamins, and for me, it's not always easy to get enough grams of protein in on vacation, so I pack protein bars with me.  Another thing you could do is portion out your protein powder in snack size zip top bags and mix it in bottled water.

When booking your advanced dining reservations, advise them that you have a special needs diet.  I usually just tell them I follow a diabetic diet, since I was an insulin dependent diabetic, and most of the foods I needed to avoid then, I try to avoid now.  But early on in my post-op days, I told them I had gastric bypass surgery, and all of the chefs I spoke with were very helpful.  They will come out and go over the menu with you, make suggestions, and I've had them alter meals for me.

Some of the buffet restaurants allowed me to pay only a nominal entertainment fee for taking up space but not eating; and if you have a card from  your surgeon, some of the buffets will charge only a child's price for the meal.

Best wishes with the altered insides!
