Hi Andi! Sounds like we have the same favorite college football team...RTR! We are thinking of visiting WDW in mid-July. Is that a horrible time to go? I know it will be super hot & would appreciate tips on staying cool & avoiding super long lin

Hey, Rebecca! Oh, yes ma'am....Roll Tide! One of our favorite things to do at WDW is count how many Crimson Tide shirts and hats we see at the parks, and of course, we always give the wearers a little shout out, too!

We have been in July, and although it usually is very hot, the parks don't seem as busy as during other school breaks. The way we plan summer trips is to find out when Extra Magic Hours are -- and they're  sometimes very late -- then, we'll plan our park time for after the sun goes down. We'll sleep late, eat brunch and swim in the pool or visit a water park. We get cleaned up for an early dinner at a park and time our reservation so that we're leaving the restaurant as the sun is going down. Then, we stay and shut the park down...most of the time in the wee hours of the morning!

If we are going to be out in the hot Florida sun,  we usually bring a small spray bottle and a hand-held, battery-operated fan, too. Years ago, I bought a spray bottle/fan at WDW for about $15, and we bring it back every summer. I also bring a couple of washcloths to wet and put on the back of our necks, and we all tote water bottles. Don't forget the hats, sunglasses and sunscreen!

The best strategy for avoiding lines is to plan your Fast Passes. There are certain attractions that tend to give out of FPs earlier than others. If these are on your must-do list, make sure you pull these FPs as early as possible:

    • Magic Kingdom -- Space Mountain, Peter Pan's Flight, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain
    • Epcot -- Soarin', Test Track, Mission: Space
    • Hollywood Studios -- Toy Story Mania, Rock n' Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror
    • Animal Kingdom -- Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Kali River Rapids
DisneyQuest, boat rentals, shopping and spa visits are great plans for beating the heat during the day, too!  Have a beautiful Alabama day and a magical vacation!
