Amanda, I noticed your experience taking young kids to WDW. My dd will be 5 when we visit WDW in Dec. At age 3 she spent most of her first visit in the stroller. I want to prepare her to walk more this trip. Any tips on helping her get ready?

    Hi Michelle!

First of all, thank you so much for your question!  My son will be 5 on our upcoming trip, and on our last trip (at age 4), he did a good amount of walking.  To prepare him for this trip (we'll have the baby and our 3 year old in the stroller for the bulk of the time) we've been walking...and walking....and walking at home...working on his endurance.  We jokingly call it our Walt Disney World training camp.

Now, this isn't to say that I'm going to expect him to walk 8-10 miles every day (and yes, we took a pedometer one trip and that was our average!)...BUT he'll be able to walk more if he works up to it.  I also know he'll end up in the stroller from time to time, and that's to be expected.  I suggest that if you have a smaller stroller that fits your daughter, take it along, as she WILL get tired!  You can also rent a stroller while at the parks.  I've seen kids as old as 10 hanging out taking a break in the Walt Disney World rentals--and to be honest with you, if I could get away with it, I'd be right there with them!

Also know that with a little one in tow (on foot), your pace is going to be MUCH different.  Take that into account.  Relax and don't push them.  Take frequent breaks, and make sure that they are getting the proper fuel (good food) to power them through the day.  ALSO, make sure that she is wearing SUPER comfy, broken-in shoes that are appropriate for walking.

    Have a magical vacation!
