Hi Amanda! As a Disney World veteran, we're considering changing it up and visiting Disneyland later this year. Our two top choices to visit are Oct 17 to 21 or Dec 19 to 23. Which time would you pick? For an avid planner when should we start our plans?

Hey Kathie!  I am super-duper excited to hear that you'll be visiting Disneyland on your upcoming vacation to the West Coast!   I highly recommend taking your time to discover all of the similarities and differences between the two resorts!  I just love that eerie feeling I get when I'm walking down Main Street, and I have to stop and think for a moment to realize I'm not in WDW.  I never lose that feeling, no matter how often I visit!

You've chosen two awesome times to visit.  The December dates are fantastic because the parks will be decked out in their Holiday best and you'll be there to experience a spectacular Christmas Parade and Holiday Fireworks display, not to mention the adorable Holiday overlay on "it's a small world."  It even snows in Southern California!  Imagine that!

On the other hand, I think I would choose the October dates, simply because the crowd levels will be at max during the week prior to Christmas.  During the dates you mentioned in October, the crowds will be drastically lower and you'll get to enjoy the spooktacular Fall decorations including my favorite, the GIANT pumpkin on Main Street USA.

The Halloween fun doesn't end with decorations!  One of my favorite attractions, Haunted Mansion, will be taken over by Jack Skellington. Riding this attraction while the holiday overlay is in place will be an experience you'll never forget and one that I highly recommend!

If that isn't enough reason to visit in October, here's another fabulous excuse:  Mickey's Halloween Party! During this special ticketed event, DL Park is transformed into a land of tricks and treats...but mostly treats of course!  Guests can party the night away with costume-clad characters, a special parade, and spooky fireworks show!

Hope this helps you make your decision, but please know that there's NEVER a bad time to visit The Happiest Place on Earth.
