Hello, I am already trying to plan out our itinerary for Dec 29-Jan 5th. Trying to decide what do on 31st. We don't want to stay for 12:00 due to DD6 &DD2. Was thinking HS and early fantasmtic, but also considering AK due to lowest crowds. Any suggesti

    Hi Shelley!

I think your thinking is spot on. Disney's Animal Kingdom is generally not crowded on New Year's Eve.  That's because most guests want to be in a theme park that will stay open late and that will have special fireworks.  Since it's most likely that one or more theme parks may close due to capacity, most guests head to those parks early as opposed to going to Disney's Animal Kingdom first and then hopping over to another park.  This is also true for Animal Kingdom on the 4th of July.

That said, if you think your children can stay up and you do want to experience New Year's Eve then definitely head over to Disney's Hollywood Studios or Epcot.  The Magic Kingdom will be packed like crazy, so I don't recommend going over there, especially with young children.  Epcot does a better job handling large crowds because of its size, but I think the experience is nicer at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  Besides Fantasmic, the Studios will most likely have special New Year's Eve fireworks as well.

It's a hard decision.  Good luck, and write back with more questions!
