We have already planned our vacation to Disneyworld for the first week of June 2011. I have just found out that this is also the same time as "Gay Days" in Orlando and at all four Disney parks. Is this a bad time for young families to visit? I

Hello there Joey, I'd love to answer your question but want to preface it with a reminder that the Moms Panel is all about sharing our own personal experiences, opinions and views with you, so my opinion may differ from some of my fellow panelists, but it is something I felt I wanted to address. "GayDays" are not endorsed or sponsored by Disney in any way, and are in fact a series of events held throughout the Orlando area, not just at Walt Disney World.

I actually worked as a cast member during GayDays back in the 90's and later visited before and after being married as well as  before and after having children. I happened to be there visiting the parks during one of the days last year as well. I have never personally seen anything I would consider inappropriate for families of any age or size. Those in attendance are there to enjoy the parks and their own families, just as everyone else on vacation at that time.

Even if your children are unaccustomed to seeing two men or two women as a couple, they may not even notice with all the Disney magic around them. On a personal note, when my oldest son was about 4, he saw two men holding hands and kissing (not at Disney actually) and asked what they were doing. I answered simply that they were in love and kissing. He accepted that answer and that was the end of the conversation - it didn't need to be any more in depth that that, just as it would've been if he'd asked about a man and a woman kissing. :)

I hope this has helped ease your mind a bit and that you and your family are able to enjoy a wonderful Disney vacation together. Thanks for visiting the Panel and let us know if you have any other questions!
