Are we allowed/able to bring our own snorkel gear to Castaway Cay? If so do we have to check in anywhere or are we free to start exploring?

    Ahoy Megan!

Welcome aboard planDisney, your cruise is so close I can feel it! A Disney Cruise Line vacation with a stop at the private island of Disney Castaway Cay is always a delight and I’m happy to help you understand what you can bring with you.

You’ll be pleased to hear that yes, you may bring your own snorkel gear onboard a Disney cruise ship and then onto the island for your special day at Castaway Cay! Swim fins, snorkels, full face snorkel masks, and swim masks may be brought onboard and are not considered prohibited items. You may use your own gear on Castaway Cay and at beaches in any port of call that allows this activity. Please know that you cannot use this equipment in the pools onboard your Disney cruise ship. Guests are required to wear life vests provided at no cost while snorkeling in the lagoon, so be sure to grab one before diving in. On the island, stop by Gil’s Fins and Boats or Flippers and Floats for any additional equipment or guidance needed.

My family loves to snorkel, and I know this will be a memorable activity for you too! There are many kinds of tropical fish and marine life in this 22-acre lagoon located at the Family Beach. There is a snorkeling trail for beginners but be sure to keep your little ones close as there is a current when you float around seeking hidden treasures under the sea.

Once you’ve flipped your fins to your heart’s content, enjoy a perfect beach day relaxing along the lagoon or in a nearby hammock. I always make time to walk (or tram ride) the island’s length to stop in both shops for exclusive merchandise and special photo opportunities. Did you know that if you purchase the drink of the day cup onboard, you can bring it with you to the island? The bartenders will honor the special, so you can receive a few extra ounces of their topical Konk Kooler at the price of a regular size.

    Wishing you a magical sailing,
    Amy
