Hi Allison! If I'm not staying at a Disney resort, is purchasing some type of dining plan an option, such as the quick service one or can you recommend a way to handle food in the theme parks? I'm trying to make it budget friendly for my family w/ 3kids

    Hi Rosalind,

Thanks for coming to me with your question regarding dining at Walt Disney World. While it is not possible to purchase a dining plan if you are NOT staying on property at one of the Walt Disney World Resort hotels, there are still ways to stay on budget while still getting a great meal.

First of all, buffets are a great way to pay one price and eat as much or as little as you would like. While restaurants with buffets are not considered quick service and advanced dining reservations are recommended, I would suggest having at least one big meal like this each day. Then, you can save money throughout the day with smaller meals or snacks. My 3 children are not huge eaters, so when we do dine at quick service, we often have the two youngest ones share a meal or a meal and a small side. Another great tip is that my family will pack small snacks in our backpack (which is allowed as long as it isn't in glass containers) to munch on in between meals. Examples of these snacks are fruit, granola bars, crackers, pretzels, etc. Even when the kids' meals come with a side of grapes or carrots, if they don't eat it right then, we'll save it for later.

I hope these tips can help you save a little money while still getting the most out of your magical trip!
