Hi Jennifer,
Welcome Back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, and thank you for your question. Dog lovers cheered when they heard the news last fall about Walt Disney World’s pilot
dog-friendly hotel program…but, like you, I’m allergic to dogs and was concerned about what that would mean for my Disney vacations (especially because my regular seasonal allergies magically disappear when I enter the Disney Bubble!).
I’m happy to report that this policy is sensitive to both dog-lovers and the dog-allergic. Currently, while the program is in pilot phase, there are 4 hotels that welcome canine Mouseketeers (
Dog-keteers?): Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort. The dog-friendly rooms are in designated floors or sections of each resort, and they have a lot of great policies in place, including allergy-friendly assurances. I am staying at two of these resorts on an upcoming trip, and it was very easy to request an allergy-friendly room away from the dog-friendly sections. Simply call the Walt Disney World Reservations phone number at (407) 939-1936 and ask the Cast Member to make a note on your reservation.
Jennifer, one of my family’s favorite characters to meet in the parks is Pluto! This silly and huggable pup doesn’t bother my allergies one bit. You can find him in lots of places around the parks, but I think my favorite place to meet him is
alongside Goofy in DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. These two get into all kinds of mischief together and it’s so much fun!
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
