Ahoy there! Me again :-) I will be purchasing the top tier internet package for our cruise in January so I can work while onboard. Do I also need cellular at sea from my mobile provider? Thanks!

    Hi Tracey,

Welcome back to planDisney and thank you so much for asking us another great question.

Sigh… work. It always finds a way to, well, find us, even when we’re on vacation! I recently sailed aboard the beautiful Disney Magic out of Miami and, yep, I had to do some work too, which meant that I needed to purchase a Wi-Fi package onboard.

Here’s my experience: I initially purchased the “Basic Surf” (mid-level) package at first but I wound up needing to upgrade to the “Premium Surf” package a few days into my voyage in order to do some Teams calls. I’m happy to say, however, that I never needed to use Cellular at Sea with my mobile phone provider. Even though the Wi-Fi could, at times, be much slower than a land-based connection, I was able to avoid the significant fees associated with using cellular service on the high seas.

If your mobile provider does provide you with a decently priced package (and I understand that some do), you may want to see whether that would be worth it for you to stay fully connected during your trip.

I hope my answer helps you plan the best way to work and play during your upcoming Disney Cruise Line vacation! Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions.

    Have a Magical Day,

    Lynne
