Hi Sarah, welcome to planDisney!
You are visiting Walt Disney World Resort during a parenting sweet spot. Strollers and naps are optional, and your kids are likely tall and brave enough to experience
big thrills like Slinky Dog Dash at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Test Track in EPCOT. They can also stay up late for
fireworks.
According to Walt Disney World Resort Property Rules, children under age 7 must be accompanied by someone over 14 to board an attraction. Unfortunately, this means your 6-year-old is not able to sit next to your 10-year-old on two-seater attractions like
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. During my family's last visit, my 7-year-old was ready to board Slinky Dog Dash with his 11-year-old sister. My husband and I were in the row behind them. The Cast Member did his due diligence and asked my son how old he was before boarding. My son responded, "7 years old," and was visibly proud of reaching this coveted Disney milestone.
I regret that the age of your children during your visit does not allow them to sit together on two-seater attractions, Sarah, but I can assure you I've had nothing but positive experiences with single riders at Disney. In fact, many single riders are parents taking advantage of
Rider Switch. You can help break the ice by asking the single rider about their favorite Disney snack or character. Kindness is pure pixie dust and your 10-year-old may even end up with a new friend or two.
Some of my favorite attractions that allow your party of 3 to sit next to each other in the same ride vehicle include Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, Pirates of the Caribbean, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and Frozen Ever After. Be sure to purchase
Memory Maker, which includes unlimited downloads of all attraction photos and pictures taken by Disney PhotoPass photographers.
Thanks for bringing such a thoughtful question to planDisney, Sarah.
