Hi again, I was wondering about using Canadian Disney Gift Cards to pay off our vacation package balance? Is there a conversion fee that's added when using it? What exchange rate do they use the one from when you bought the card or when you use it?

    Hi Sienna,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us another question, my fellow Canadian!

I’ve recently become a big fan of purchasing the Canadian dollar Disney Gift Cards at home in order to budget a bit for my upcoming visit to Walt Disney World Resort. I’m happy to say that they can be used anywhere that regular U.S. Dollar (USD) Disney Gift Cards can be used, including to pay off your Disney Resort Hotel Package. I understand that you may have to contact Walt Disney World Resort by telephone in order to perform this transaction as the online system sometimes doesn’t recognize gift cards purchased in Canadian dollars.

As for the exchange rate, the card’s face value in Canadian dollars will get automatically converted into USD based on the prevailing exchange rate on the day that the card was first used and not on the date that it was purchased. After that, the amount you’ll have left in USD is “locked in” and you won’t need to deal with exchange rate issues for any subsequent transactions with that card.

I hope my answer helps you plan your budgeting for your upcoming visit to Walt Disney World Resort. Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions!

    Have a Magical Day,

    Lynne
