    Any advice/ tips on running the Jan half marathon? Concerned about the low temperatures of an early morning in January! Also, is paying for chear squad worth it? My DH thought of just bringing our 1yr old and 5 year old to the finish around 8am.

    Hi Amanda:

    Congratulations on your plan to run the half-thon in January.  I ran the half-thon twice.  Aside from training, I would make sure you are prepared for weather.  Two years ago, the temperatures were abnormally cold.  Indeed, the temperature at the start of the race was freezing and there was a wet snow falling for a brief period.  However, the other year I ran, the temperature was mild and pleasant.  I recommend wearing layers of clothing that you can discard during the race if necessary.  I also recommend taking it easy the day before the race, and not attack the Parks too hard.  Enjoy a light dinner, get to sleep early, and lay out your running clothes the night before the race so you are ready to go on race morning.

    With such young children in tow, I would probably recommend just meeting up with your family at the end of the race.  With young children, your husband is going to want to be flexible with his schedule and location.
