Hello. Some advice please, how would I use dining plan to pay for meal at a restaurant requiring payment at the time of booking? Would my card be charged when I make my reservation? Can I make my reservation online using my Disney experience?

Hello Gillian and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel where it's always an added pleasure for me to assist a fellow Guest from the United Kingdom with their jolly holiday plans to visit the magic of Walt Disney World Resort.
For me enjoying good food and great company come top of the list for things to do when holidaying at Walt Disney World Resort and I always get excited about making those all important Advanced Dining Reservations up to 180 days before my planned arrival date!
I'm a huge fan of the Disney Dining Plans! I absolutely love how convenient they are to use and enjoy the freedom they provide for Guests to choose to dine in over 100+ dining locations across Disney property.  I'm happy to share that credit cards are simply required to secure restaurant reservations and won't be charged unless Guests don't turn up at their allotted reservation time, or cancel last minute (after 11.59pm the day before).  Plus you sure can make Advanced Dining Reservations through My Disney Experience online or via My Disney Experience Mobile app
Additionally I also thought you may find this Disney Dining Plans - Frequently Asked Questions link to be a useful planning resource.
    Have a great Disney day.
