What are the advantages of staying at a Disney world resort prior to a cruise on Disney wish Feb 19? Is there transportation to port? Is there transportation from port to MCO airport. Cost?

    Welcome, Eileen!

A Disney Cruise Line vacation in February is the perfect way to beat the winter blues next year! I love that you’re considering pairing it with a stay at the Walt Disney World Resort; I’m happy to help you understand what’s possible and what the advantages are. Thanks for bringing such a great question to planDisney - putting the pieces of this puzzle together with you is what we do best!

Ground transportation is available both to and from Disney Resort Collection Hotels to Port Canaveral, Florida and to and from the Orlando International Airport (MCO). This is not a traditional shuttle, but rather a pre-paid reservation for a specific timed transfer. There is a small fee per person for this service, but it is comparable to other services while nicely bundling everything together under the familiar care of the Disney brand.

Of course, it’s amazing to start your cruise with a few days at the Walt Disney World Resort, but even staying the night prior at an on-property hotel enables you to reserve this special transportation. If you fly in late the night prior to your cruise, a nice option is to stay at the Hyatt Regency located within the Orlando airport and reserve the Disney Cruise Line ground transportation from the airport in the morning of your magical embarkation day.

You must add ground transportation to your cruise reservation either online or in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App; please note that only round-trip is available online and you must call Disney Cruise Line for one-way or different location options.

When staying at a Disney Resorts Collection Hotel, you will receive an email with pick-up instructions and exact timing 48 hours prior to sailing. The vehicle will then take you straight to the coast and the lovely Port Canaveral cruise terminal – this is seamless and leaves the driving and logistics up to Disney while you can slip into vacation mode! You also have peace of mind that Disney will worry about the timing, and you can daydream about what to do first once you've boarded the beautiful Disney Wish.

Similarly, you may reserve ground transportation back to a Walt Disney World Resort hotel or the Orlando airport upon disembarking the ship. You will receive details in your stateroom the night prior to departure as to the timing and location of the vehicle at the Port Canaveral terminal. Disney advises that you plan flights no earlier than 11:25 A.M. that day if you are returning to the Orlando airport.

I hope this helps you understand what’s possible, Eileen. It’s an easy decision for my family, as we love leaving the details up to Disney so we can relax and know everything will be taken care of for our transportation to and from the port.
