What are the advantages of staying close to the monorail vs not?

    Hi April,

The resorts on the monorail line (The Contemporary, Grand Floridian and Polynesian) are all deluxe properties with beautiful lobbies, extremely well-themed pools with slides and outstanding table service restaurants.  In addition, they all hold "prime real-estate" status, because the monorail makes getting to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and the Ticket and Transportation Center a breeze.  At the Contemporary, there is also a walkway to the Magic Kingdom, making this park a short 5-7 minute stroll away.  At the Polynesian, you can walk over to the Ticket and Transportation Center in addition to hoping on the monorail.

Many guests with small children who spend a significant amount of time at the Magic Kingdom find the resorts on the monorail to be very convenient because they don't need to fold strollers to board buses to the park.  (You can simply wheel most strollers directly onto the cars of the monorail.  This comes in super handy when you are carting a snoring two year old back "home" after the fireworks!)

While the monorail properties are, indeed, outstanding, all Disney resorts offer free, convenient transportation to each of the parks and Downtown Disney.  The Yacht & Beach Club and Boardwalk are also very conveniently located within walking distance of both Epcot and Hollywood Studios, and allow access via a much more quiet (i.e., less crowded) International Gateway entrance to Epcot.  Old Key West and Saratoga Springs offer a quick ferry boat service to Downtown Disney which is a great perk for guests who plan on visiting this area in the evenings.

Whichever property you chose, I hope you have a wonderful trip!
