Hi Dennis,
Welcome back! I am excited that you are considering one of the
Disney Dining Plans!
My family prefers to use a dining plan for a few reasons - 1) It gives me a clear estimation of our food expenses for the trip, 2) Dining plans include drinks with meals, two snacks per night of stay and a resort refillable mug, 3) We prefer to eat two or three meals per night and 4) We can use our table-service meal entitlements for character dining experiences.
To determine the value of a dining plan, first, I decide which restaurants we plan to experience. Then, I check the restaurant web page to see 1) If it accepts dining plans, 2) If it does accept dining plans, the number of meal entitlements required and 3) Menu prices. To check to see if a restaurant accepts dining plans, go to the restaurant's home page and look for a link that says "Some Dining Plans Accepted." Once you click on that link, a pop-up menu should appear that lets you know which dining plans are accepted and how many meal entitlements are required. Also, from the home page, look for a link that says "View Menu." Once you click on that link, select the menu you prefer. Remember that drinks are typically priced separately when not using a dining plan. To obtain pricing for buffet or family style meals, call to speak with a cast member in Dining at 407-939-1947.
Dennis, once I have that information, I create a chart of our dining plans with estimated costs next to each meal and I include snack costs (estimated at $7 per snack). I also estimate that we will refill our resort mugs at least three times per day. I calculate that at $4 per refill. I compare that total cost to the cost of the dining plan. We always dine at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall for breakfast. That meal has been more than $200 for our family of four (with two tweens)!
Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
Donyell
