Hi Tressa!
Thanks for stopping by planDisney! My own little ‘ohana loves the
Rider Switch option at Walt Disney World Resort, so I am more than happy to answer your question.
First of all, I love that you’ve discovered the key to a truly efficient use of Rider Switch. Without Disney Genie+ Service and/or an Individual Lightning Lane purchase, the first party to ride waits in the standby queue and only the second party may use the
Lightning Lane. Great planning! Now, in order for your child to enter the Lightning Lane, they, too, will need access via an Individual Lightning Lane purchase. The bright side is that they’ll get to see some amazingly detailed queues, and this gives them a chance to decide if they want to experience the attraction itself after all.
Now, if your child does not meet the attraction’s
minimum height requirement, they will not be able to wait in the queue at all. This also means that they will not need a purchased Individual Lightning Lane. They will wait outside of the attraction with the adult who rides second, and then when it’s time, the adults switch! I can’t hardly wait for my younger son to see the immersive queue of
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! But there’s always something to do or see around any attraction’s land while waiting for both adults to ride. My son can’t get enough of those yummy cups of Blue Milk from Batuu’s
Milk Stand.
I hope that the three of you have an amazing time at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Although your vacation is just around the riverbend, please don’t hesitate to ask any further questions here at planDisney in order to make the most of your trip!
Magic always,
LeAndra
