My adult daughter and I are coming to Disney World on 12/25/24. I lost my mother this past March and need to get away for the holiday. We have our magic bands from our March 2022 trip. So they need to be replaced or is it possible to change the batteries?

Hi there, Amelia, and welcome to planDisney!

Although my kiddos are still young, I look forward to my one-on-one mommy-and-me days at Walt Disney World Resort. There’s something about experiencing the magic through their eyes. As Grandma Tala from Moana says, “There is nowhere you could go where I can’t be with you.” No doubt, this vacation with your daughter will be everything that your heart needs, but both of the awesome women in your life will be right there by your side.

I have some good news for you: The older, classic MagicBands’ batteries usually last about 2-3 years; however, I’ve had my own for more than 7 years and they still work. Sometimes when I don’t want to use my Apple Watch’s digital wallet or my DisneyMagicMobile on my phone, I’ll grab a classic MagicBand (or a newer MagicBand+—more on that later) and it’ll work out just fine.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to check from home or outside of the theme parks if your MagicBand still works. So, as soon as you get to property, see if your linked MagicBand can still open your Disney Resorts Collection hotel room door. This is a great way to check before you go all the way to the theme parks. If you find that it doesn’t work, the batteries can’t be charged or replaced, so you would need another linked band or alternative method.

AN EXTRA GEM: As I mentioned earlier, there are other options to tap into the magic. The newer MagicBand+ has all of the same capabilities of the older band. It also has really cool haptics that interact with your surroundings while at the Disney Parks. They are rechargeable (unlike the older bands), so you’ll want to plug it in at least every other night to get the most out of it. You can also download your admission ticket or pass to your phone’s digital wallet. And unlocking your room? You can do that with a physical park ticket or even in your My Disney Experience App.

Amelia, I hope that you find comfort and joy while at The Most Magical Place on Earth. If you have additional questions, please revisit us here at planDisney.

    Magic always,
