Hi, my adult children and I are planning a trip in September to Walt Disney. My husband has Parkinson's. This will be his last trip. What would be some tips for someone who is disabled?

Thank you for sending us your question.  My mom, too, visited Walt Disney World with Parkinson's Disease.  At that time, her mobility was extremely limited, so we planned our trip knowing that we would not be able to transfer her out of her wheelchair.  Knowing this, I made sure to reserve a wheelchair accessible room and include a notation on our dining reservations that we'd have a guest in a wheelchair. When I made our Disney's Magical Express reservation, I did share with them that we'd have a member in our party in a wheelchair that would not be able to transfer out of it. However, please know the lift into the bus is in the back and does go quite high into the air. If you are flying and arrive between 5 a.m. and 10 pm, the perk of having Walt Disney World take care of your luggage is a tremendous. Similarly, they will check your luggage at your resort on your departure day. I also sent by mail a large bulk of her medical supplies ahead to our resort.

I then spent time researching which attractions where she would be able to remain in her wheelchair, so we planned our days with those attractions as a priority while making sure to include breaks during the day. To this day, my dad still speaks so highly of the great care and respect afforded to my mom from cast members who graciously helped her with Disney transportation and attractions.

If I can help with any further questions, please let me know. I'm happy to help as much as I can.  Wishing your family a magical trip filled with lots of pixie dust!
