We have an ADR at Chef's Mickey's for June 25 at 5:20. How do we get selected as the family of the day. We are a family of three - mom, dad and 7 year old son? I have read that most times the family selected is a family of four, are we just out of luck?

    Hi Vickie,

The honor of being selected as Family of the Day for dinner at Chef Mickey's usually goes to a family who has one of the first reservations of the evening. When they first open the restaurant, each character is introduced with a lot of fanfare and then the Family of the Day will get seated at their table by Mickey Mouse himself. Mickey loves to take kids by the hand and lead them to their table.

This honor almost always goes to a family who is there early. Usually 5:00 PM is the first available reservation time of the day, so generally it will go to a group that has a reservation at that time. When making your future reservations, always ask what the first seating of meal time is. If your reservation is for 5:20, unfortunately, you don't have one of the first seating's. Have you tried to switch it to something earlier?

I recommend that you still plan to arrive early. You could still watch the introduction of the characters this way. You never know, maybe you'll still get picked. Often Guests start arriving at around 4:30 PM, even if no Cast Member is standing at the podium yet. Even though you'll be about 35 minutes ahead of when you need to check in, don't be afraid to start forming the line as soon as you arrive. Being first in line is definitely a good thing and you never know, maybe you'll get lucky.

Please keep in mind that the Cast Members have the final say in who the Family of the Day is and it is left up to chance. Don't worry so much about being a group of 3 versus 4. My daughter was chosen as Princess of the Day once at Cinderella's Royal Table and we were a party of 7.

Hope this helps and that you have a magical vacation regardless of whether or not you are chosen. Chef Mickey's is a lot of fun! Your son will really enjoy the "Make Your Own Ice-Cream Sundae" station.
