Is there a way to add my Disney gift cards and reward points to my magic band so I don’t have to carry them around all week?

    Hi Vicki!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Ooooh, your vacation is right around the corner! I'm a bit jealous. Want to trade trip countdowns?

Yes, you can absolutely apply your Disney Gift Cards and Disney Visa rewards points to the total spent on your MagicBand. However, doing so will be in a sort of backward order compared to what we're use to with payment apps these days. For example, a certain popular worldwide coffee chain allows you to store their gift cards in their app, and purchases made deduct from that stored total right then and there. At Walt Disney World Resort, when you check in and allow credit card charges to be made with your MagicBand, you're really approving a pre-authorized amount to be held from your card for the entirety of your stay, or until you spend that amount. Usually $1,500, every time you use your MagicBand to pay for a Mickey Bar or a sweet sweatshirt, the total of the items purchased will accrue on your Disney Resort Hotel room bill. Once you hit $1,500 worth of MagicBand purchases, your card will officially be charged that amount, and a new $1,500 will be held so you can keep having fun. Should you not hit either the initial or a new amount held before you check out, you'll only be charged what you actually spent, and the difference of the hold will be released back to your card.

To apply Disney Gift Cards and rewards points toward your total already spent, stop by your resort hotel lobby every few days to pay down or pay off the charges made, which will reset your hold total. Some dislike this method, however I'm that person who constantly has to reload her coffee card at the drive-up window when 8 cars are in line behind me, so I appreciate that I can't be fund-less during a Disney Day.

I hope this helped, Vicki, and We'll See You Real Soon!
