Can I add a credit or gift card to my 17 year old’s MDE app so he can mobile order for himself?

Howdy, Alicia! Welcome back to planDisney. We’re so glad you’re here!

Family vacations are a blast, but let’s be honest, sometimes it’s nice to have the kids take care of themselves just a bit so you can relax! Am I right, Alicia?! So, let’s talk about setting your son up in his My Disney Experience account so he can grab a bite to eat while you kick back and unwind!

You can absolutely link a credit card in his My Disney Experience app to be used for in-app purchases, like Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering, Shop in Store app purchases, and Disney Genie Service purchases. However, since Guests linked in your Family & Friends Lists would not have access to this credit card, you will need to go in and add it manually, directly in your son’s account. To do this, simply follow these steps:

    • Log into your son’s My Disney Experience account.
    • Open the menu by clicking on the three stacked lines in the bottom right corner.
    • Scroll down and select “My Profile.”
    • Click on “Payment Method’
    • Add the payment method you would like to use, and click on “Confirm.”

Your son should then be able to use this credit card information to make in-app purchases.

However, do keep in mind that he will not be able to use that credit card for any in-person transactions, like purchases in shops and dining locations that do not offer Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering. As an alternative, if you’re staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, you can set him up to be able to make charges to your room account via his MagicBand or Key to the World Card. Then, you can pay off those charges on your preferred credit card at check out. To do this, you’ll want to follow the steps above until you get to“Payment Method.” From there, toggle over to “Disney Resort Hotel Guest Pin.” Then, click on “Set Room Account PIN,” select the Guests you would like to set up and choose a four-digit pin that will be used to authorize charges to your room account. Finally, submit, and you are all set!

Perhaps the most flexible option would be to purchase your son a few Disney Gift Cards. These can be used for in-app purchases in his My Disney Experience app and anywhere in the parks. This way, you can give him a set amount to spend, so he doesn’t go too crazy purchasing snacks and other goodies around the parks. He’ll find it hard to resist not purchasing every snack in sight if he's anything like me!

I hope my answer has been helpful to you! We here at planDisney love to help our fellow Guests make the most of their Walt Disney World Vacation, so please visit us again if you have any other questions!

    See you real soon!
