How do I add a credit card to my teenagers account with added them to my group app. She is going to be with friends and wants to link with them for her genie+.

Hi Jennie! Welcome back to planDisney.

There are some limitations to the teen Disneyland mobile accounts, including the inability to add a credit card as a form of payment. Of course, there are good reasons for that limitation, but there is also a helpful workaround, which I can personally recommend, which will allow your daughter to spend safely during her park day.

I just got back from a trip with our teen, who is mature enough to be independent in the parks but can't add a credit card to her account. Our solution was to provide her with a digital Disney Gift Card. You can purchase these online. I texted her a screenshot of the digital card with its code, which she saved to her favorites album on her mobile device. That made it easy to bring up the screenshot for a Cast Member to scan when buying herself a snack or a souvenir while we were nearby, enjoying a different aspect of the park with our young children.

When purchasing the card, select "Shop Cards" at the top of the Disney Gift Card homepage. Be sure you choose "Disney Gift Card by Email" on the next screen. That's the digital version. You don't have time to wait for a physical Disney Gift Card to be mailed to you, although those would definitely work for a park visit too under different circumstances.

Disney Gift Cards can't be saved as a method of payment in the Disneyland mobile app, but you can use them for in-app purchases, unlike cash, which is your other option when sending a teen to the parks. Another great workaround is to save the Disney Gift Card's number in the Notes app on her mobile device, so she can quickly copy and paste the number into the payment screen during in-app purchases, rather than flipping back and forth between the picture of the card and the payment as she types in the rather lengthy number! In-app purchase functionality means she'll be able to utilize food and beverage or merchandise mobile orders too.

When she links with the group for ease of Disney's Genie+ Service use, they won't have access to her payment method. Only she will have access to the Disney Gift Card, which isn't saved in the app. Plus, you're able to choose the amount you're comfortable with her spending by selecting the amount to put on the card. Anything that's left on the card won't expire, and you can use the card not only in the parks but also on shopDisney and to put towards the purchase of your next admission ticket too.

    I hope this helps!
