We are AD military family of 3, looking to stay onsite at Disneyland for 2 nights. We have 1 year old and wife has terminal metastatic cancer. We will require mobility assistance. What deals do you have for military/ what reservations should we make?

    Hi, Blake!

Thank you so much for your family's sacrifice and service. I am so sorry for the medical struggles you are all experiencing! I have lots of information and ideas that will hopefully make your trip to the Disneyland Resort a wonderful core memory.

First, there are some great discounts available for eligible US military members:

Staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel is a great way to keep the magic going, even when it's time for a nap or a relaxing break by the pool. You can also take advantage of benefits like early entry for a little extra time in one of the parks each morning. I find that time is especially great with young kids!

Now let's talk about mobility. I'm guessing you will be pushing your tiny Mouseketeer in a stroller, so I would recommend renting an ECV for your wife to preserve her energy. You can either rent an ECV near the park entrance or rent one from ScooterBug and have it delivered to your hotel. I like the hotel delivery option because then your wife can use it to travel to the parks, too. Mobility devices are pretty common in the parks, this page has some good tips for using one safely and successfully during your visit.

My very favorite thing to do with a young toddler is a character meal! It's a great way to meet new friends in a more relaxed environment, and the characters are great about reading the reactions of kids and interacting in ways they are comfortable with. Some of the character dining locations are at the hotels, so you can do a meal on the day you arrive or the day you leave without needing a theme park ticket! For a first visit, I would probably go to Storytellers Cafe at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa. Make sure your reservation is for breakfast or brunch because Mickey and his pals aren't there for dinner.

The Disneyland Resort is a place where I always try to set aside the challenges we're going through and just enjoy the time I have to spend with my family. I hope your visit will be filled with lots of happy moments, Blake. Please let me know if I can help with any other questions as you prepare for your trip.

    Keep moving forward!
