    We will actually be driving from NC to Disney and staying at ASMovies 12/19-12/25. Will it be quicker to use the free Disney transportation or drive our own car to the different parks since we can park for free?

    Hi Amanda!

         We have made the road trip from New Orleans to Orlando so many times, I swear that I could get there with my eyes closed!  We like the convenience of driving for so many reasons - we love being able to make our own schedule and somehow we always come home with more than we came with:)  However, once we are at Disney World, we use Disney transportation about 95% of the time!

         While it may be quicker to drive yourself, there are some hidden factors that actually increase the travel time.  For example, it might only take around 10 minutes to drive to the Magic Kingdom using your own car, but the journey has only begun.  From this point, you must board a tram which will take you to the Ticket and Transportation Center and then you can take a monorail or boat to the Magic Kingdom.  Whew!  Or, you could just hop on a bus at All Star Movies and be dropped off at the entrance in about 22 minutes.  We find that using Disney transportation is not only more convenient, but usually quicker!

         Of course, there are a few cases where it really helps to have a car.  For instance, when travelling from resort to resort, it is ALWAYS quicker to drive yourselves.  This is because you must transfer from one bus to another when resort hopping - not a lot of fun!  Depending on our mood, we often drive ourselves to Downtown Disney as well.  Finally, if you are planning on visiting any destinations outside of Disney World, having your own car is a huge time and money saver.
